Ammolite is a rare, vividly coloured, iridescent gem found exclusively in Southern Alberta, Canada. It is one of the three biogenic gemstones, the other two being amber and pearl. In 1981, ammolite was given official gemstone status by the World Jewellery Confederation.

Ammolite is usually fashioned into freeform cabochons or be given a synthetic cap as used in triplets for added protection due to its delicacy.
